Mbangula: Leaving Juventus is good for me. There are many good wingers in Belgium but I am not afraid of competition

Bremen player Mbangula was interviewed during the training camp of the Belgian U21 national team and talked about leaving Juventus, the style of the Bundesliga and the Belgian national team.

What do you think of the decision to leave Juventus?

Changing the environment is very beneficial to me. At Juventus, after a stunning start, a fear of failure quietly emerged. I went from a situation where people had no expectations of me to a situation where people had high expectations for me.

This is a stage that must be passed through in your career. I put less pressure on myself now because I understand that pressure is useless.

How does the style of the Bundesliga influence you?

It feels great to be able to find space again in a league where the style of play suits me better. There's more space and the game is more open. Serie A is more closed and tactical. In Germany, they certainly emphasize the collective, but they also leave room for individuals to develop. The manager told me not to worry and that I would have the freedom I needed.

There is fierce competition for the winger position in the Belgian national team. How do you view your chances?

Indeed, Belgium produces many more high-level wingers than other countries. Those players who make us dream and watch our entire childhood are wingers. It’s normal for us to want to imitate them.

Belgium has no shortage of geniuses in this position. Unfortunately or fortunately, geniuses all develop in this position. In my case, I can rely on my versatility. My main position is as a winger, but I can also play as a number 10 behind the striker or even as a central midfielder and other positions. So I'm not afraid of competition.

How will you convince national team coach Rudy Garcia?

Every time I come to the U21 national team, I will continue to prove myself. At some point, it might be time to return to the senior team. Maybe not. I have no idea. I believe in myself and the arrangement, we will see.
