BBC: Joensen hopes to have more playing time and may leave the team in the winter window, Chelsea is considering signing a replacement

BBC news, Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen has been told that if he gets more playing time, he will have the opportunity to start the Denmark team at next summer's World Cup. Chelsea may sign a replacement or recall Penders without intending to reduce the number of goalkeepers.

The position of the main goalkeeper of the Danish national team is still vacant, but the 23-year-old goalkeeper has yet to get a starting opportunity on behalf of Enzo Maresca's team in the Premier League.

He has recorded just one league appearance this season - as a substitute against Manchester United after Roberto Sanchez was red-handed - with his remaining appearances limited to two Carabao Cup starts and one Champions League appearance against Ajax.

For a goalkeeper with such strength and international ambitions, the lack of game opportunities may have a significant impact in the preparation stage for the 2026 World Cup.

In the Danish national team system, the goalkeeper position is still unresolved. Mats Hermansson has had his ups and downs at West Ham United, while Kasper Schmeichel faced just three saves from 14 shots in his last two disastrous qualifying games (Denmark drew 2-2 with Belarus and lost 2-4 to Scotland).

These results mean that Denmark must compete for a place in the main draw through the European play-offs next March. Joensen should have been the first choice in these key battles, but only if he gets more practical training. Given his talent, age and experience, European clubs are likely to show interest as the January transfer window approaches, especially if he can be acquired on loan.

Any personnel changes will affect Chelsea - the club currently has no plans to reduce the depth of the goalkeeper lineup, but may sign a replacement or recall the outstanding Mike Penders from Strasbourg.

The 23-year-old Joensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in July 2024 for a transfer fee of 24.5 million euros. This emerging European goalkeeper who once had high hopes has only received 28 appearances in total so far.
