29-year-old former Czech international midfielder and Yakub Yankto, who came out publicly two and a half years ago, posted a social media today, announcing his retirement.

Yanktor wrote:

I received too much information to ask if I would continue my football career. Unfortunately I won't. The reason is simple: I suffered a very serious injury (complete damage to the ankle ligament). I had been trying to overcome it and trying to survive the whole year. Anyway, the most critical factor is my child, who I have almost no chance to see often. I want to change that because we only have one family and I hope to be in Prague, a little closer to my son. That's why I decided to move to Prague. Thanks to everyone who supports me, I am sincerely grateful ❤️🙌

Yakub Yankto has played in Serie A and La Liga for many years, playing for Udinese, Sampdoria, Getafe and Cagliari. He has also played 45 times for the Czech national team and scored 4 goals. In the 24/25 season, he did not play for Cagliari all season and left the team after his contract expired this summer.

In February 2023, Yanktor officially announced his release on social media, becoming the first active player in professional football to come out publicly. Yanktor mentioned that his son was born to him and his ex-girlfriend, and after the two broke up, there was a dispute over child support.
